Delta Technics Bolt-Action Rifles
This Operation and Maintenance Manual for Delta Technics bolt-action rifles is intended to ensure the maximum accuracy, safety, and service life of your firearm. The principal design feature of Delta Technics rifles is the innovative DLC coating of the bolt group, which operates entirely dry and requires no lubrication. Up-to-date specifications for each model are available on the official Delta Technics website.
1. General Safety Rules for Handling Rifled Firearms
• Always treat the firearm as if it were loaded: never point the rifle at people, pets, or valuable property, even when you are absolutely certain it is unloaded.
• Muzzle direction control: the muzzle of the rifle must always be pointed in a safe direction – up, down, or toward the target.
• Trigger finger discipline: keep your index finger on the receiver or the trigger guard. Move your finger to the trigger only immediately before firing, after you have taken aim.
• Identify your target and what lies beyond it: never fire at an indistinctly visible target (into bushes, at a sound, or into fog). You must clearly see both the target itself and the space behind it, in order to rule out accidentally hitting people or livestock.
• Safety: keep the rifle on safe until the moment it is brought to bear on the target. Remember that the safety is a mechanical device that does not replace observance of the safety rules.
• Carrying and transport: when crossing obstacles (ditches, fences, steep slopes), getting into a vehicle, or moving to a new position, unload the rifle and open the bolt. Transport the firearm only when unloaded and in a protective case.
• Alcohol and medication: handling the firearm while intoxicated, or under the influence of any medication that reduces concentration, is categorically prohibited.
2. Special Precautions and Technical Safety
• Unloading the firearm: before any maintenance, cleaning, or disassembly, remove the magazine, open the bolt, and verify both visually and by touch that there is no cartridge in the chamber.
• Certified ammunition: use only commercially manufactured factory ammunition that corresponds to the caliber of your rifle.
• Prohibition of handloads: the use of uncertified, defective, or hand-reloaded (reloaded) ammunition is strictly prohibited. Such ammunition can cause overpressure, barrel rupture, and injury.
• Barrel and receiver: unscrewing the barrel from the receiver yourself is categorically prohibited. Barrel replacement, any change to headspace, or any disassembly of this assembly must be carried out exclusively at a certified Delta Technics service center using specialized equipment.
• Clear bore: before shooting, make sure there is no lubricant, heavy protective film, dirt, or foreign object inside the barrel. Firing with an obstruction in the bore leads to its bulging or rupture.
3. Regular Checking of Action-Screw Torque
• Inspection interval: check the torque of the screws connecting the receiver to the stock (chassis) before every shooting session. A loss of torque directly degrades grouping and shifts the POI (Point of Impact)
• Tool: use only a quality, calibrated torque wrench with suitable bits. Ordinary wrenches can strip the screw heads or over-torque the threads.
• Required torque:
– For aluminum chassis (DTS M2): the action screws should be torqued to 7.1–7.6 Nm (63–67 in-lbs).
– For composite/carbon stocks with a bedding block (DTS M1): the torque should be 5.8–6.3 Nm (51–56 in-lbs).
• Tightening sequence: tighten the screws alternately, building up the torque gradually (first the front screw to half torque, then the rear screw, after which both screws are final-torqued to the specified value).
4. Cleaning Sequence of the Rifle's Assemblies
• Cleaning interval: clean the firearm after every use. Even a single shot left without subsequent cleaning can lead to corrosion damage of the rifle's assemblies if the rifle is stored long-term in a damp environment.
• Cleaning order: after the bolt has been removed and cleaned, the following are performed in sequence: cleaning the chamber, cleaning the barrel, cleaning the receiver, cleaning the trigger, and a final control pass of a dry patch through the chamber and barrel to verify the cleaning quality of these assemblies.
5. Bolt Group Maintenance
• DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) feature: the bolt and its components are coated with an ultra-hard carbon layer that has an extremely low coefficient of friction.
• Dry operation: flooding the bolt group with oil or liquid lubricants is categorically prohibited. On a DLC coating, lubricant collects abrasive fouling and turns into a paste that will impede the operation of the bolt group and may lead to a malfunction.
• Applying a thin layer of a specialized heavy gun grease (such as Bore Tech Extreme Grease HD) to the surfaces of the lugs, the Cocking piece roller, and the Bolt shroud lock is permitted and recommended.
Cleaning procedure:
1. Remove the bolt from the receiver.
2. Remove the Bolt Shroud, together with the firing pin and firing-pin spring, from the bolt body by rotating the Bolt Shroud clockwise.
3. Blow out the internal cavity of the bolt body, the firing-pin spring, and the firing pin with a fast-evaporating aerosol cleaner.
4. Wipe the bolt body, the lugs, the bolt face, and the firing pin with a dry microfiber cloth lightly dampened with degreaser.
5. For heavy fouling, use a carbon fouling remover and a soft brush.
6. Rinse off the remaining residue with a fast-evaporating cleaner (degreaser) and wipe dry with a clean cloth.
7. Wipe all components completely dry. Assembly and operation are carried out strictly dry.
6. Cleaning the Chamber and Receiver
• Importance of the chamber: a fouled chamber impairs case extraction (up to the point of a case jamming in the chamber) and directly reduces rifle’s accuracy. Cleaning it requires a special tool.
Chamber cleaning procedure:
1. Use a special short cleaning rod and a stiff, oversized nylon (or brass) brush sized to fit the chamber.
2. Wrap the brush with a patch soaked in a powder-fouling solvent.
3. Insert the brush into the chamber and make several rotating movements.
4. Replace the patch with a dry one and repeat the procedure until the chamber is completely clean.
5. Blow out the chamber with a fast-evaporating aerosol cleaner (degreaser) and wipe it with a dry patch. Make sure the chamber is completely dry.
6. If the chamber is heavily fouled or has a high round count, a cleaning procedure with a specialized gun cleaning paste (such as JB) must be carried out, followed by cleaning with solvent and degreaser.
Cleaning the receiver:
• Clean the internal surface of the receiver of fouling and residue using a short cleaning rod and cloths with a small amount of solvent.
• Remove the remaining solvent using an aerosol degreaser and clean cloths.
• Wipe the cleaned surface with dry cloths. Do not use any lubricants or preservation grease; after cleaning, the receiver must remain clean and dry.
7. Bore Maintenance and Cleaning
• The barrel requires no preliminary preparation before use (break-in, removal of preservative, conditioning, and so on). All necessary preliminary work (including barrel polishing and break-in) has already been done by the manufacturer at the factory.
• Cleaning direction: insert the cleaning rod strictly from the chamber end, moving forward toward the muzzle. Use a bore guide to protect the trigger and the receiver cavity. Do not allow solvents or oil-based cleaning compounds to enter the receiver cavity (especially the cavity of the front action screw) or the trigger.
• Routine (chemical) cleaning: remove powder fouling and copper fouling after every shooting session using liquid solvents. Wipe the bore dry before completing the procedure.
Deep cleaning with pastes:
– Permitted: periodic use of special mild gun-cleaning pastes (for example, J-B Non-Embedding Bore Cleaning Compound or Iosso Bore Cleaner) every 200–300 rounds, to effectively remove the stubborn carbon ring and built-up copper fouling.
– Strictly prohibited: using any non-specialized abrasive pastes (automotive lapping compounds, construction polishes, GOI paste, etc.). Their use will irreversibly damage the rifling geometry and rob the rifle of its accuracy.
• Rule for applying paste: apply the paste only to a tight cloth patch, make 50–60 passes inside the bore, and then completely remove all paste residue with solvent, an aerosol degreaser, and dry patches.
8. Trigger Maintenance
• Critical rule: oil must never get into the trigger. Oil inside the trigger housing collects dust, powder-gas residue, and fine dirt. This leads to a hung sear, unpredictable trigger pull, or an accidental discharge.
Maintenance procedure:
1. To clean the trigger, do not remove it from the receiver and do not disassemble it; disassembly of the trigger requires specialized tools and qualifications.
2. Flush the inside of the trigger generously with an aerosol degreaser.
3. Leave the trigger group completely dry. Lubricating any trigger components is prohibited.
9. Maintenance of the Cerakote Protective Coating
• Cerakote properties: this thin-film ceramic coating protects the metal from corrosion and scratches but requires relatively gentle mechanical care.
Cleaning rules:
• Clean the stock and the external surfaces of the barrel/receiver with soft microfiber cloths.
• Do not use stiff metal brushes, abrasive sponges, or sandpaper-type materials, which can scratch the matte texture.
• Chemical resistance: Cerakote is resistant to gun chemicals; however, avoid prolonged exposure of the coated parts to aggressive industrial solvents (for example, acetone). To remove dirt, use a soapy solution or neutral cleaners, then wipe the surfaces dry.
10. Firearm Storage Rules
• Prohibition of preservative greases: the use of heavy preservation greases, cosmoline, or petroleum jelly is strictly prohibited. Removing them afterward from rifles with DLC coating and precision tolerances is extremely difficult and disrupts the normal operation of the mechanism.
• Recommended regime: the best protection for the firearm is storage in a dry place (in a locked gun safe).
• Humidity control: storage in a high-humidity environment is strictly prohibited. Dampness causes pitting corrosion even on protected steels and destroys optical devices. The optimal humidity inside the safe is 40–50%.
• Moisture protection: always use desiccants in the safe (bagged silica gel or small electric dehumidifiers). Regularly check and regenerate (dry out) the silica gel.
• Cases: do not store the rifle in soft fabric or foam cases after shooting. Foam absorbs moisture from the air and holds it against the metal, promoting the formation of rust.
